Bubbling Fluidised Bed (BFB) technology

Babcock & Wilcox Bubbling Fluidised Bed (BFB) technology offers reduced NOx and SO2 emissions by enabling the control of bed temperature and using reagents such as limestone as bed material. In addition, BFB technology has the ability to use fuels which are difficult to burn in conventional boiler systems.

Typical BFB steam boiler fuels include:

  • Biomass or waste fuels
  • Sludge from effluent treatment plants
  • Low grade or high sulphur coals
  • High moisture content
  • High ash content
  • High fines content
  • High sulphur content
  • Low calorific (or heating) value

Babcock & Wilcox conducts extensive research in fluid bed combustion and has developed advanced designs for both bubbling and circulating fluidized-bed technology.
